Owning a small business or creating a new business brings many responsibilities, including compliance with various federal labor and employment laws. The Wage and Hour Division (WHD) of the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) administers and enforces some of the nation’s most comprehensive federal labor laws. Collectively, these laws cover most private, state, and local government employment throughout the United States and its territories. Some states have labor laws that afford workers additional rights and protections; employers must comply with both federal and state laws.

Join our presenter, Rob Vaden, Community Outreach & Resource Planning Specialist for the US Department of Labor Wage and Hour Division as he provides an overview of selected federal labor laws that establish basic protections for workers, including essential workers, such as minimum wage, overtime, family and medical leave, and safe housing and transportation conditions in agriculture.

This will be a brief presentation followed by a live Q & A. We encourage all to participate.

About Our Presenter: Rob Vaden, CORPS

ROB VADEN serves as the Community Outreach and Resource Planning Specialist for the Orlando District Office. He began his career as an investigator with the Wage and Hour Division in the Tallahassee Area Office in 2009 after serving 22 in the US Air Force. As an investigator, he enforced a variety of Acts that included MSPA (Agriculture), Child Labor, Government Contracts, Fair Labor Standards, Family Medical Leave and H-visa immigration programs. Additionally, he serves as adjunct faculty for Department of Labor, Wage Hour Division national training for H-1B, H-2A, and H-2B programs.
